Pre-orders for the iPhone 14 have been brisk, and if you haven't already placed an order, delivery dates are already slipping into October. However, if Apple's most recent model doesn't appeal to you, you might be better off waiting for the iPhone 15? Key distinctions between the phones are outlined in our comparison of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15.


Apple has improved its iPhone 14 Pro models this year compared to the standard iPhone 14. We witnessed a significant display improvement with a new animated notch, or what Apple calls a Dynamic Island, and it saved the new A16 Bionic chip for the Pro models. This time, the business put a lot of emphasis on safety features, bringing satellite connectivity for Crash Detection and Emergency SOS.all variants of the iPhone 14 features.


Regarding the iPhone 15, virtually little has been released because it is still very early. However, longer-term improvements like a USB-C charging connector and a new periscope camera with greater zoom capabilities have long been anticipated. As a result, we can already start to piece together the specifications, release date, and price of the iPhone 15 in 2023.

Date of potential iPhone 15 release

This is the early iPhone 15 rumor that has the most concrete details. Apple has only ever revealed its new flagship smartphones outside of September once in the past ten years: in October 2020, in the midst of a pandemic that required orders to be placed at home and interrupted tech supply chains.

As a result, the release of the iPhone 15 in September 2023 is very likely. Pre-orders typically go live a week before the phone's official release date, with Apple typically announcing new phones roughly ten days beforehand.

With the iPhone 14, there was strong speculation that we would see a 15% price increase, but this turned out to be incorrect — if you live in the United States. Other regions saw a substantial increase, but in the US the only change in pricing was the elimination of the cheapest ‘mini’ model.

That means that prices currently go from $799 for the 128GB entry-level iPhone 14 all the way up to $1,599 for the 1TB iPhone 14 Pro Max. We would expect something similar this time around, but it’s entirely possible that the iPhone 15 will see the price rise that the US missed out on in 2022. If so, expect an increase of $100 or so.

Apple discontinued the iPhone small this year and instead unveiled the iPhone 14 Plus. That made the decision easier: whether you went Pro or not, you could choose between a 6.1- or 6.7-inch screen.

It's very likely that this will go on into the following year. The iPhone 12 mini's poor sales were evident within a few months, but Apple was forced to continue with the iPhone 13 mini because the plans were set in stone and could not be modified.

In the unlikely event that the iPhone 14 Plus fails, the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max will most likely still be part of the lineup for the following year.

But this list may have one addition — an ultra 15 phone. Mark Gurman, a dependable tipper, recently tweeted that once the Apple Watch Ultra was released this year, we may "expect" the model for iPhones in the future. He then reaffirmed this in his newsletter. Could the iPhone 15 Ultra be the case? We must wait and see.

The sole accurate speculation regarding the iPhone 15's design to date is that Apple will eventually stop using the Lightning port on its phones in 2023. Not only has the corporation adopted the connection for its laptops and tablets, but the European Union has mandated that all phones utilize USB-C by 2024, so this isn't entirely unexpected. Apple may continue to use the Lightning port in other countries, but doing so would add complexity and cost with little to show for it.

While there are still speculations of a portless iPhone, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that at least some of Apple's devices will use USB-C. Our best bet is that if a portless one does appear next year, it might be a Pro feature.

LeaksApplePro, a reasonably trustworthy tipster, asserted that USB-C ports and the Dynamic Island might be seen on every iPhone 15 model, adding credence to this USB-C rumor for the iPhone 15. The latter is a piece of good advice because we'd be a little miffed if Apple decided to only include a USB-C port on iPhone 15 Pro variants.

Despite rumors that Touch ID will return, Mark Gurman, asserts that Apple has no immediate plans to reinstate fingerprint scanning in flagship iPhones. The company reportedly tested in-display Touch ID and even considered putting it on the power button, but it appears like Face ID will be the only choice starting in 2019 and onward.

It's extremely unfortunate. But with the iPhone 8, this capability has been absent from high-end Apple devices. The choice is important, and Touch ID would have come in useful during the pandemic months when everyone was donning masks and Face ID was having trouble keeping up.

iPhone 15 camera

One of the first iPhone 15 rumors mentions a potential update to a new camera. There are rumors that the iPhone 15 will eventually include a periscope camera for enhanced long-distance shooting and zoom capabilities after upping the megapixel bar to 48MP on the iPhone 14 Pro versions. It would be wonderful to see Apple eventually provide this, as Android phones are on our list of the best camera phones already. However, as again, if it debuts in 2023 at all, we'd be very astonished if it wasn't the first Pro only.

Speaking of the 'Pro' difference, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes that Apple will add some special features to its 'Pro' models and may be trying to sell more of its larger 6.7-inch versions. phones with unique characteristics compared to the smaller variants. The possibility of a periscope camera being an exclusive feature of the iPhone 15 Pro Max in an effort to upsell was left open at this time.

iPhone 15 expected specs

Although it is still early, two rumors have surfaced. The first seems very likely, whilst the second might just be wishful thinking.

Adoption of the A17 processor would have formerly seemed certain, starting with the 'likely', but this year only the iPhone 14 Pro benefited from an entirely new chipset, while the normal model used a slightly improved version of the A15. Assuming that this is the new norm, the iPhone 15 Pro handsets may receive the A17, while the standard iPhone 15 may have an improved A16. That obviously doesn't tell us much about performance, but the A17 is anticipated to be the first chip produced using the 3nm manufacturing process, which might have significant effects on speed and efficiency.

iPhone 15 Ultra

Recently, there have been some rumors that Apple would produce an iPhone 15 Ultra rather than the customary Pro Max variant. Although there had previously been speculations about an iPhone 15 Ultra, it was thought that this would be the fifth iPhone. This might not be the case, it appears now.

As opposed to the screen size being the primary point of differentiation, there have been some rumors that Apple wants to better distinguish the iPhone 15 Ultra from the iPhone 15 Pro. However, there has been no news on what these potential modifications would be as of yet.

Apple was rumored to save USB-C connection for the most costly iPhone 15 model at first. Nevertheless, more recent speculations claim that this adjustment will before EU law that would require USB-C charging on electronics takes effect, come to all iPhone 15s.

Of course, there have long been reports that an iPhone without a port is being developed. It's possible that the iPhone 15 Ultra completely forgoes USB-C in favor of a port-free design that does not require a physical connector. Additionally, if Apple uses the titanium alloy design first seen on the new Apple Watch Ultra, durability may be increased.

The long-rumored periscope camera is one of the prospective enhancements. Apple might greatly benefit from optical zoom capabilities greater than the present 3x maximum, even though it is a standard feature on competing flagships.

iPhone 15 outlook

Although the iPhone 15 rumors are still very new, no one has ever lost all of their money betting on Apple. While the projected benefits of the 3nm A17 CPU should solidify Apple's already dominant lead over the top Android phones in terms of sheer speed, the anticipated debut of USB-C may tempt those who have yet to succumb to iOS' allure.
